In 2010 I was invited to submit an article to the Peace Corps Hotline — monthly newsletter written
for Returned Peace Corps Volunteers.
I was excited to write about blogging as a way to teach people at home in the United States about the rich, often misunderstood, diverse world around us.
From 1998-2000, I lived and taught in China, working hard to understand the culture and language, to make friends. Too few journalists leave the larger cities, learn to speak and read Chinese — and come away with misconceptions that they share in their writing.
Returned Peace Corps Volunteers have a unique opportunity to help others read between the lines and understand their host countries more deeply.
